Welcome to SND’s Best of Digital Design Competition

Due to the overwhelming amount of entries coming in today, we have decided to extend the entry deadline until Monday, January 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Thanks for entering!

Welcome to the Society for News Design’s 17th annual Best of Digital Design Competition, the contest seeks the best digital stories and products from 2017.

Digital design is more than a publication’s use of typography, illustrations and graphics. This competition has pushed our judges to think about design in a different way – from a site’s speed to its usability to its use of multimedia in stories.

Each year more incredible work pushes expectations for entries — just the way that innovation and progress should. The awarded stories from 2016 challenged conventions and pushed our thinking about what is possible, but we know that 2017 will surpass it.

Please review the competition categories and if you have any questions about them or other aspects of the competition, reach out at

The contest will open for submissions on December 1st, 2017. The last day to submit entries for the contest will be Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

The entry fee is based on membership in SND, although you do not need to be a member to enter. (You can join SND here.)

  • SND members: $25 per entry
  • Non-SND members: $40 per entry
  • Students: $15 per entry

Judging will take January 26-28, 2018. You can follow contest updates — including during the judging at #SNDDigital.

As always, good luck!
